From the Author
Robert Beer first began to study and practice Tibetan art and thangka painting in India 1970, and was one of the first westerners to become actively involved in this field. He is the author and illustrator of The Encyclopedia of Tibetan Symbols and Motifs and The Handbook of Tibetan Buddhist Symbols. His drawings have appeared in hundreds of Buddhist-related books and websites, and he lives in Oxford, England.
About the Author
ROBERT BEER has studied and practiced Tibetan thangka painting for over thirty years, including five years of study with master artists Jampa of Dharamsala and Khamtrul Rinpoche.

Yet more beautiful drawings from a master - but please read for pointers on how they work as a coloring book!,

This book is a follow-up to his Buddhist Art Coloring Book 1: Auspicious Symbols and Mythical Motifs from the Tibetan Tradition published earlier this year. It follows the same format but all the drawings are figurative: Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Masters and Lineage Masters. The drawings are reproduced from his previous works on Tibetan Buddhist iconography, limited-edition silkscreen prints, and some have never been published before. Each includes a brief description of the subject.If you have either his The Encyclopedia of Tibetan Symbols and Motifs or The Handbook of Tibetan Buddhist Symbols, you know these two classics feature incredibly skilled black-and-white brushwork drawings with explanatory text on their meaning in traditional art, and you have an idea what this coloring book contains.
If you haven't seen his books, or the earlier Volume One, be advised each drawing is a little work of art, the original carefully drawn with a very fine sable brush, and there has been no attempt to simplify them for a coloring book format! The upside is that the bones of your coloring effort will be the work of an incredible artist, but also it will require much discipline and patience to complete the pages. When you are done, you will probably have something worthy of framing, but this is not a book to doodle on to relax. If you aren't familiar with Robert Beer's books on iconography, this is an important point. This are very tightly done drawings that are going to require more focus than many other coloring books. A few of them could be done with felt-tip pens, but most are going to require very sharp colored pencils or fine-pointed pens. Some areas are big enough for shading effects but some are going to be enough just to manage one color in the spaces. The drawings are probably not as visually dense as Volume One but they are still very intricate images. I have attached some photos of the Green Tara page which is one of the more complex to give you an idea of what I mean here.
Another thing to be aware of is that six of the drawings are Buddhas and Bodhisattvas: Amitayus, Medicine Buddha. Manjushri, Avalokiteshvara, Green Tara and White Tara, Forty-four of the drawings are teachers and lineage masters, including the well-known ones such as Tsongkhapa, Virupa, the Fifth Dalai Lama, Marpa, Padmasambhava, Yeshe Tsogyal, Vajradhara, Milarepa, and Nagarjuna. There are also many lesser-known masters, including one of the Jonang lineage (Taranatha).

Beautiful Tibetan art coloring book from drawings by Robert Beer - excellent printing and quality paper for colorists to enjoy

This second volume of original hand drawings by consummate Tibetan artist Robert Beer is just as beautiful as the first volume. Anyone, who likes this type of coloring book will enjoy this book. I have several coloring books of this nature and love the peacefulness of coloring by my own inspired colors or according to traditional Tibetan thangka color descriptions.
There is a short but concise description in the back of the book describing 50 different teachers under the categories of: 1/Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, 2/early Indian Buddhist Masters, 3/early Tibetan and Kadampa masters, 4/Kagyu lineage masters, 5/Jonang lineage masters and, 6/Gelug and Mongolian lineage masters. All of these originally hand drawn drawings are beautiful depictions that show the stories surrounding each master, teacher or Buddha.
Particulars that colorists might be looking for:
~ 10" x 8" book
~ 50 hand drawings are 8.75" x 6.25" in size
~ each is framed
~ designs are single sided printed with lovely small patterns on the reverse side
~ most will require mindful application of ultra fine point markers or sharpened colored pencils
~ some of these drawings have extremely small spaced coloring areas, most likely the original drawings were larger and now reduced down to fit into this 10" x 8" book; if you have the means, the process could be reversed by personal use copying onto larger paper
~ the publisher used an excellent quality of acid free recycled paper
~ alcohol markers and some gels will bleed through
~ excellent printing resolution of these highly skilled drawings
~ we are very lucky, because these are copies of larger original drawings by Robert Beer that have been reduced down to fit this coloring book
~ this is a bound book, pages are not perforated for easy removal
~ printed well away from binding
For both Volumes I and II, I used ultra fine Sharpies, Staedtler Triplus Fine Liners, ultra fine BIC Mark-Its, Pentel Sunburst metallic gels and Copic Sketch markers in larger areas. For the really small spaces I used Copic 0.3 multiliners.
Coloring these drawings can be a fun coloring experience as well as a deep contemplative process. I am respectfully appreciating having the opportunity to take my time coloring these original drawings by an obviously skilled Tibetan artist.

LOVE this book. The images are fabulously and professionally drawn. I would buy this book even if I didn't plan to color in it. The drawings are just lovely. Nice paper quality and image resolution. Highly recommended.
